Frequently asked questions

Who is this course for?

The Better Birth Academy is designed primarily for expecting parents who want clear, balanced preparation for birth and early parenthood. If you're feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice online, unsure what labour will actually be like, or want practical tools to feel more confident going into birth, this course will give you the knowledge and strategies you need. It's suitable whether you're planning a vaginal birth, induction or epidural. While the course covers unplanned Caesarean Births, if you know that you will be having a planned Caesarean, you may find that there are other courses that are more targeted to you. I am now taking bookings for private classes, just you and your birth partner. Group classes will launch later in the year.

What makes this course different from hospital antenatal classes?

Many hospital classes focus primarily on hospital policies and procedures. The Better Birth Academy focuses on helping you understand how birth works, what your options are, and how to navigate decisions confidently, wherever you give birth. You'll learn: How labour actually works physiologically and how you can support labour progress, not hinder it; Practical comfort and coping strategies; How common interventions work and when they may be recommended; How to ask questions and take part in decisions about your care; What to expect in the early weeks with your baby. The goal is not to promote one type of birth, but to help you feel informed, calm and prepared for whatever path your birth takes.

What is the cost?

I am now taking bookings for private classes - just you and your birth partner. 2 × 2 hour sessions, personalised to you. For a limited time only, I am offering this for a total cost of $190 (for both sessions). Hit the 'Book Now' button to lock your session in.

Can I bring my partner or support person?

Yes — your partner or chosen support person is strongly encouraged to attend. Birth partners play an important role in providing practical and emotional support during labour, and the course teaches them exactly how they can help. Partners will leave the class feeling confident about what to expect and how to support you.

When is the best time to attend?

The 'ideal' time to join is between 26 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, but you are most welcome to join us either side of this. This timing allows you to absorb the information while your birth still feels close enough for the knowledge and strategies to stay fresh.

What is LCCE?

LCCE - Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Lamaze International is the leading provider of childbirth certification globally. Certification by Lamaze International is the most respected and recognised credential in childbirth education worldwide. It is also the only childbirth educator training in Australia that has been endorsed by CAPEA - Childbirth and Parenting Educators of Australia.

Is this course suitable for me if I'm planning a Caesarean Birth?

While the course covers unplanned caesarean birth, the primary focus of the course is on labour and navigating the different paths that birth may take. If you know you will have a planned caesarean birth, this course isn't ideal for you.

Birth feels very different when you understand what is happening and what your options are.

I'm Emma Finch — a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE), endorsed by CAPEA, and mum of two. I created The Better Birth Academy because I believe every expecting parent deserves clear, research-informed information — not conflicting advice and social media noise.
